Operating Hours and Activities at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument

The Little Bighorn Battlefield Visitor Center and Monument are open year round except for Christmas, New Year's Day, and Thanksgiving.

The park opens at 8 AM all year long.

Form Memorial Day to July 31 it closes at 9 PM.
From August 1 to Labor Day it closes at 8 PM.
From Labor Day to the end of daylight savings time it closes at 6 PM.
Through the winter the park it closes at 4:30 PM.
From the beginning of daylight savings time to Memorial Day it closes at 6 PM.

The anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Little Bighorn is on June 25.

Little Bighorn offers a wide range of interpretive opportunities. Talks on the battle and related themes are presented at the Visitor Center patio, during the summer. From Memorial Day to the end of August, daily Park Ranger talks are as follow:

  • 9:00 AM - Battle Talk
  • 9:45 AM - The Cavalry Soldier in 1876
  • 10:30 AM - Battle Talk
  • 11:15 AM - The Indian Village
  • 12:00 Noon - Battle Talk
  • 12:45 PM - The Cavalry Soldier in 1876
  • 1:30 PM - Battle Talk
  • 2:15 PM - The Indian Village
  • 3:00 PM - Battle Talk
  • 3:45 PM - The Cavalry Soldier in 1876
  • 4:30 PM - Battle Talk
  • 5:15 PM - The Indian Village
  • 6:00 PM - Battle Talk

Note: Due to the possibility of inclement weather or conflicts in scheduling, some summer programs may not be presented as scheduled. Modifications of the above schedule usually occur the last few weeks in August due to staffing. Call 406-638-3224 ahead of visiting to find correct schedule of Ranger presentations during this time.

Guided bus tours, with Native Americans, are offered through the concessionaire, Apsaalooke Tours, from Little Big Horn College. Tour schedule and prices are as follows:

  • 10:00 AM
  • 11:00 AM
  • 12:00 Noon
  • 2:00 PM
  • 3:00 PM

Self-guided walking tours are available for the battle related sites and the national cemetery. A self-guiding, 5 mile tour road enables visitors to follow and observe the sites related to the battle.
